Kalispell · Flathead Valley · Homes, ranches & commercial

Reliable power for everyday homes — and the big systems that keep ranches and businesses running.

Whether you want a whole-home battery, a standby generator, or a larger multi-generator and commercial EV charging setup, we’ll walk you through it in plain language — without the stiff sales pitch.

  • Battery & backup systems
  • Residential & commercial EV charging
  • Parallel generators & complex installs

What we install

From a welcoming home install to ranch and commercial projects that need serious capacity — sized correctly, permitted where required, and wired to code.

Battery storage

Keep lights, fridge, well pump, and internet running through outages — or size a larger battery bank for a ranch or commercial site. We design for how you actually use power, not brochure numbers.

Generators & backup

Automatic standby for homes, plus larger and parallel generator setups when one unit isn’t enough. Proper transfer equipment, load calc, and fuel planning — built to run when the valley goes dark.

EV charging

Level 2 at home that feels simple and tidy — plus commercial and multi-bay charging when you need more capacity. Panel checks, circuit design, and installs that match how you actually park and plug in.

Battery value in the Flathead Valley

More than backup: put stored energy to work

A well-planned battery can keep the loads that matter running through an outage and manage when your home draws most heavily from the grid — and it does not require solar. For Flathead Electric residential members, that bill strategy is currently about lowering measured peak demand — not chasing a cheaper nighttime energy price. Pairing a battery with a generator is often a strong fit when you want longer outage coverage.

Lower the peak

Flathead Electric bills standard Northwest Montana homes for the highest hourly demand during designated peak hours. With the right controls and enough charge available, a battery may supply part of the home then and reduce what the meter sees. On a utility plan with true time-based energy pricing, charging off-peak and discharging on-peak may also create value — but that is not how FEC’s published standard residential energy rate is structured today.

Backup without the scramble

A compatible battery and isolation system can transfer supported circuits automatically when utility power fails, often with little or no noticeable interruption. Transfer behavior, supported loads, and runtime depend on the equipment, design, battery charge, and what is operating at the time.

Steadier power for sensitive loads

A high-quality inverter can provide clean, stable power to supported loads while the battery system is operating and help some sensitive equipment ride through an outage transition. It does not eliminate every surge or power-quality event. Dedicated surge protection, correct grounding, and coordinated system design still matter.

No solar required — charge from the grid

A home battery can charge from Flathead Electric’s grid. Solar is by no means essential for battery storage to work — we can install solar when it fits your goals, but it is an optional add-on, not a requirement. Grid-charged storage can still support peak-demand control during FEC’s published peak windows and provide backup for supported loads when the power goes out. If you add panels now or later, the same battery can often put that daytime generation to work.

Battery + generator: better together

A battery is well suited to seamless short and medium outages and to keeping sensitive loads on clean power. A standby generator pairs naturally with that setup: it can extend runtime and recharge the battery during a longer outage so critical circuits stay covered. Transfer behavior, which loads are supported, and how long you can run all depend on system design, fuel, and how the equipment is coordinated.

Every property is different. We design custom backup power solutions, pairing inverters, batteries and generators to fit how you live and work.

Rebates & tax credits in 2026: what still applies

Straight answers, checked October 2026. Confirm details with your tax preparer and utility before you buy.

  • Federal home battery credit (25D) has ended. It does not apply to any battery installation completed after December 31, 2025.
  • Federal EV charger credit (30C) has ended for chargers placed in service after June 30, 2026.
  • No federal credit for standby generators. Generators did not qualify under 25D.
  • Flathead Electric Co-op: no general residential battery rebate is listed today. A battery’s bill value comes from lowering the monthly peak-demand charge. Backup batteries and generators need an FEC-approved isolation device and a Co-op inspection before use.
  • NorthWestern Energy customers: the 2026–27 Montana residential rebate program covers efficiency measures, not batteries, generators, or EV chargers.

Our work

Craftsmanship from larger commercial jobs — the same care we bring to a home battery, a ranch backup system, or a commercial EV install. See a recent battery backup and generator install in the Battery savings section above. More project photos coming as jobs wrap up.

Why people call CSE

Homeowners should feel comfortable calling — we’ll explain options without jargon or pressure. Higher-end homes, ranches, and commercial sites get the same clear talk plus the experience to plan larger, more complex systems (multi-generator, battery banks, commercial EV).

  • Warm, straight answers — never talked down to
  • Comfortable with complex / high-capacity installs
  • Code-compliant work with permits where required
